Girls' Camp!

Girls' Camp was soooo fun this year! From marshmallows to water fights, it was AWESOME!!

On the first day, we got there, unpacked, fought over our bunks, and stayed up 'till one. A prank was played on us about 10:00 pm. Someone (we would later find out it was our leaders) stuck a big, fat garden gnome (we would later find out it was a Santa Clause stuffy) lighted up with red lights on a broom and waved him around in our window, freaking us all out. When we got home, our leaders told us it was them. We also had a dance-off that night, everyone trying to do a cooler move than everyone else. It was a blast!

The next day was fun, but sad. That night, we were playing American Idol. I was a drunken Australian singer, and I won (my best friend Makelle was laughing her guts out)! Right after I was done with my song, Take Me Out To The Ballgame, someone knocked on our door and asked to see Makelle and M'Kaaylie, two of my friends. After a couple minutes, they called me out, too, and told me that our other best friend, Ashley was about to head home. Her dad had just died after a three year battle with cancer. Makelle and I hugged and cried, then, after a while, Ashley came over and all three of us sobbed for a couple minutes, hugging. Then she and her sister, Nicole, went home. Makelle and I went back inside the cabin and everyone...now, I thought this was really sweet, seeing as they didn't even know why Makelle and I were crying, but they all started crying with us. Around 12:00, we finally told them, and we stayed up 'till 2:00, everyone spread out in a circle on the ground.

The next day was very fun, shaking off all the sadness. It was skit day, so every ward created a fun little skit to show to everyone else. Ours was about the show "the Apprentice". It was hilarious! After the skits, everyone stood in a circle and sang special, individual songs about the Savior. That was called Singing in the Trees. Then, halfway through, Ashley and Nicole came back! Makelle and I pounced on her afterwards. That was probably one of the best nights.

Thursday was a blast! We started off the day with a hike that was at 4:30 AM! (yeah, I know). I was the only girl from our ward who went. Later that day, we had a water fight. We all put water in our mouths and spat at each other. IT WAS AWESOME!!! That night was Testimony Night. You're a whimp if you don't cry on Testimony Night. Period, no excuses.

Not much happened on Friday, except that we went home. It was a great week.

Abbey,
What a great review of a great camp experience. Sorry I made you relate so much of it over the telephone earlier this evening - Oops! Obviously, I had not read your blog as yet.
I actually went to girls' camp at Lake Alturas (by Redfish Lake) when I was in young women. Seriously, some of the best memories I have are of girls' camp. I attended girls' camp at Pinetop as a ward camp director and also as a member of the stake young women's board. Again, fabulous memories. I even attended with your mother one year (she may not remember that fondly - mother at girls' camp, not so good).
Anyway, the young women's program offers so many great experiences. I am excited for you and the journey you are on! Lots of Love, Grandma Kristie
